raise
a big family
0The more I work there, the more I realize my small office is a big family. Most of them are related to each other, but that’s beside the point.
I was working late tonight, as I often do, but ‘higher ups’ where still there after enduring a meeting with another company within the building. It was around 7 and I got up to clear my mind of a problem I was pounding my head against and went to walk out side for a moment. My CEO caught me in the hallway, he was obviously on his way out. He walked right up to me, blocking my way, and looked me in the eyes.
“You don’t look me in the eyes anymore.”
That stung, but it was probably true. He looked almost hurt when he said it.Â
“Your morale is down.”
I followed him down the stairs and outside where he stopped and turned to me again. He admited to sending David to fish out my situation. David had been poking and prodding for information for two days.Â
“Your obviously upset about something.”
I told him I didn’t think it showed. I’ve made that mistake my whole life, I never remember how expressive my face can be. Everyone always knows exactly how I feel without having to ask.
“You don’t have a good poker face.”
That made me laugh. I assured him it was nothing to do with work. He said he knew that and that I do nothing but excell. I work very hard and I’m good at helping people with my talents. I’ve been very fortunate to find a place that appreciates that and have people that stop to tell me this often.
“I’m giving you a raise tomorrow.”
That threw me off guard. I was expecting him to tell me to look for another job. He laughed when I told him this. As hard as I work, I never think it’s enough and never think the higher ups notice.Â
“Your too valuable to let go.”
I assured him he was stuck with me and I wasn’t going anywhere.
“I love you, guy.”
This made me tear up. I am so blessed.
Hi there, how’ve you been?
1Well it’s been a while since I’ve updated with any real content. The whole CPAP thing wasn’t good enough I guess. My doctor called with the test results and told me to set it to 20lbs of pressure…which is the machine’s max. Then a day later called and order me to get a Bi-PAP instead, which would allow higher pressures, so I’m currently breathing in at 24 lbs and exhaling at 20 lbs. Is anyone else reading this set that high?? Well it’s working, I guess, at least I have no complaints. I’m sleeping better and that’s what matters.
And then a nurse calls and tells me that the doctor has ordered an in-house (at the hospital) series of tests to see if 24lbs is really doing it. It will never end, I swear.
Work is stressful, but I’ll be having talks with my CEO next week about permanent employment. Keep you fingers crossed. I have no doubt it’ll go through, it’s just the terms of the whole arrangement that has me concerned. Mostly, do I get a raise or overtime? I’m already well over 40 hours a week, so straight salary doesn’t benefit me unless it’s a nice raise. And all just in time for my 1-year anniversary. YAY!
Lastly, I need to employ someone to help with a project for a few weeks. I initially asked a friend, Tiffany, to do it but she told me tonight she can’t. I can’t think of someone else that can come in part time for a few weeks.
Anyone in or near Redmond, WA, need short term employment??? Hours are extremely flexible. Pay is low, but if your between jobs, working part time currently, or work in the afternoon/night it would be sweet.
